Dumbarton aiming to shock Rangers in Scottish Cup clash

Rangers travel to Dumbarton in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

Dumbarton are hoping to produce a Scottish Cup shock when they host Rangers at The Rock this weekend.

Manager Stephen Farrell knows they will be massive underdogs but is adamant they are in with a fighting chance when they come up against the Premiership club.

Philippe Clement’s men visit the League Two side on Saturday in the fourth round of the competition following a two-week winter break, and Farrell is hoping his side can use any rustiness in the Rangers ranks to their advantage.

He said: “If we don’t think we can win then there’s no use getting up on Saturday morning. That’s the first thing I’ll say, the second thing is, there is shocks, shocks happen in football at every level.

“Whether that be the English premiership playing a lower league club in England, whether it be a premiership club in Scotland playing a lower league club in Scotland.

“Shocks happen. Can a shock happen on Saturday? Nobody knows, until the game, you just never know what’s going to happen in a game of football.

“And we have got to just keep instilling in the players that we do the things that we’re good at and hope that our players will have to be at their very, very best on Saturday, and hope that some Rangers players are not on theirs. And then if that happens, then is there a shock? Potentially there could be.”
