Dundee and Dundee United have paid tribute to Gordon Wallace after the former striker and manager passed away at the age of 82.

He scored 120 goals for Dundee during a six-year spell at Dens Park, where he won the Scottish Football Writer’s Player of the Year in 1967/68.

He returned to the Dark Blues as manager in February 1989 where he won the B&Q Scottish League Centenary Cup in 1990.

He also spent two seasons at Dundee United, scoring 19 times in 51 appearances.

He would return to Tannadice, taking on the role of assistant manager between 1986 and 1989, to work under Jim McLean.

A second spell as assistant at United saw him support Ivan Golac in leading the Tangerines to the Scottish Cup in 1994.

“Everyone at Dundee United would like to extend their sincere condolences to Gordon’s wife, Marilyn, and his family and friends at this sad time”, a statement read.

While Dundee added: “Everyone at Dundee FC is pained to hear that League Cup winner, manager, and Dundee Hall of Famer, Gordon Wallace, has passed away at the age of 82.

“Our thoughts are with Gordon’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
