Dundee will write to the SFA expressing their “serious concerns” over a clash of heads during Saturday’s game against St Johnstone.
The Dee ran out 2-1 winners against Craig Levein’s men but a head knock between substitute Michael Mellon and Saints captain Liam Gordon stopped the game.
The pair collided in the final moments of the match at Dens Park with Dundee boss Tony Docherty accusing the Gordon of an “almost life-endangering” challenge.
Mellon, on loan from Burnley, was stretchered off the field after a lengthy stoppage.
The 20-year-old forward was stabilised and transferred to Ninewells Hospital accident and emergency department following the injury.
Now the Dark Blues intend to write to the SFA to express their “serious concerns” that play was not stopped immediately.
A club statement read: “Michael sustained a significant head injury in yesterday’s match against St Johnstone, but thanks to the swift intervention by Dr McCormack and the medical team, his condition was stabilised and he was transferred to Ninewells Hospital Accident and Emergency Department.
“Following specialist investigations he was discharged with appropriate head injury advice.
“He will continue his recovery under the supervision of the club’s medical team in accordance with concussion protocols.
“The club is today writing to the Scottish FA in the strongest terms to express its serious concerns that play was not stopped to allow immediate attention to Michael after what was clearly a dreadful head clash.”
