Dundee United have signed former Hibernian and St Johnstone player David Wotherspoon.
The Canada international also played for fellow Championship side Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the end of last year.
He has now joined Jim Goodwin’s side on a short term deal until the end of the season.
Wotherspoon started his career at Easter Road where he made 154 appearances and scored eight goals before making the move to McDiarmid Park.
The midfielder spent ten years in Perth, making 356 appearances and scoring 27 goals, before leaving at the end of last season.
It was during his time at St Johnstone that he earned a Canada call up and was part of their squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The 33-year-old has played 12 times for the national side, including a World Cup group stage match against Morocco that marked the first time ever that a current St Johnstone player played at the tournament.
Following a short spell at Inverness at the end of 2023, where he scored three in ten appearances, including a debut goal in October, he has made the move to Tannadice.
Dundee United confirmed the signing on Friday.
Goodwin said: “David is a fantastic, seasoned professional who brings added quality at the top end of the pitch.
“If he can match the number of goals and assists he contributed during his time at Inverness, he will be invaluable for us.
“At Tannadice, a lot of teams come and sit deep – sometimes we struggle to break down the low block. David will give us an added dimension in those circumstances – that’s why we’ve brought him to the club.
“We’re looking forward to getting him out there.”
Wotherspoon said it was an “easy decision” when the chance to move to United became available.
He said: “I’m delighted to get things sorted and I can’t wait to get started. Where United are in the table, challenging to get back into the Premiership, coupled with the size of the club and the fanbase made it an easy decision to come to Tannadice.
“Hopefully, I can bring success here by contributing with goals and assists to get us across the line. I love getting my hands on silverware so getting promotion is something I want to add to my CV.”
