Dundee have failed in their attempt to have Josh Mulligan’s red card overturned, with the player now set to miss two games.
Mulligan was sent off by referee David Munro for a challenge on Kilmarnock’s Daniel Armstrong during the first half of the 2-2 draw between the sides on Saturday.
Munro was invited to review his decision by video assistant referee Euan Anderson but after watching the incident on the pitchside monitor, the match official stood by his original call.
Dundee boss Tony Docherty immediately signalled his side’s intent to appeal, saying that he had challenged Munro and been told it was considered to be a reckless challenge.
An independent panel heard the appeal on Wednesday morning and said that Mulligan’s ban should stand.
A Dundee statement read: “Dundee Football Club have received confirmation today that we have been unsuccessful with the appeal for the red card shown to Josh Mulligan on Saturday in our match against Kilmarnock.
“We are disappointed with this outcome, which will mean Josh will miss our next two matches.
“The club will be making no further comment.”
Mulligan will now be in the stand for the away match against Hibernian and the home game against Ross County.
