Dyer: Kilmarnock sensed vulnerability about Rangers

Kilmarnock manager Alex Dyer said he could see some vulnerability about Rangers before his team struck a late winner to win 2-1 at Rugby Park.

Steven Gerrard’s side had taken the lead through a Scott Arfield strike but struggled in the second half as the hosts played their way back into the game.

Stephen O’Donnell equalised for Killie before Eamonn Brophy rifled in the winner with just two minutes to go.

Asked if he felt that Rangers were vulnerable at 1-1, Dyer said: “A little bit.

“Only because I knew if we stepped up then we could cause them problems, show how good we were. We kept asking questions and putting balls into the box and caused them problems.”

Brophy’s firmly-struck low finish drew praise from his manager.

“It was a brilliant finish,” Dyer said. “It was a great flick from Nicke [Kabamba], he got onto it sharp and hit it early. I think that’s what cause the keeper problems. A great finish and a great result.

“First half it wasn’t us. We contained them quite well, up to a point, but we showed them a bit too much respect.

“We had a good chat at half-time and second half was much more like us. We used the ball better and had a better tempo. We knew we could cause them problems if we put ourselves into the game a bit more.”

The result left Rangers’ title hopes hanging by a thread but Dyer was celebrating a vital three points for his side as he looks to climb the table.

“It’s a great night for the football club,” he said. “It’s nice to get three points.

“Everyone’s happy.”
