Dykes an injury doubt and '50/50' for Scotland's showdown with Denmark

Lyndon Dykes is an injury doubt for Scotland as manager Steve Clarke faces difficult selection decisions for the match against Denmark.

The national team boss rates the player’s chances of playing as only “50/50” and has also confirmed that Scott McTominay will miss the game.

McTominay left the squad before the Moldova match with a throat infection and had been hopeful he would be fit to face Denmark but has not recovered sufficiently.

Clarke said: “Scott is definitely out. Scott hasn’t recovered enough from his virus.

“Lyndon didn’t do very much this morning. Lyndon, I would put at 50-50.”

Scotland striker Dykes was suspended for Friday’s match against Moldova, where Scotland sealed second spot in the group and a place in the World Cup play-offs.

Dykes joined up with the squad on their return to the UK and was expected to slot back into the team when they take on the Danes at Hampden, knowing a positive result will likely guarantee seeding in the play-off semi-final and home advantage.

However, the QPR forward trained on his own on Sunday while his teammates went through drills a day before the game.

Dykes, who was also eligible to play for Australia before declaring for Steve Clarke’s team, won his first cap in 2020 and has now played 20 games for Scotland, scoring six times.

He has found the net in his last four games for his country, and helped with the run of victories that secure the place in the play-offs for Qatar 2022.
