Dylan Vente savoured “a perfect start” to the new season after bagging a hat-trick in Hibernian’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Elgin City.
The Dutchman’s treble laid the foundations for the recently-appointed David Gray to kick off his reign as permanent manager with a convincing win in the opening round of Premier Sports Cup group-stage fixtures. New defender Marvin Ekpiteta and Martin Boyle were also on target.
“Five-nil is a good win for the team and three goals for myself, so it is a perfect start to the season for me,” Vente told Hibs TV.
“It is always good to score three goals. For me, it was a very good feeling.
“Everyone fought for each other out there, when you lose the ball everyone reacts quickly and that is important in games like this.
“We reacted well and it was good to build on a good pre-season.”
Hibs host Championship side Queen’s Park in their next match on Tuesday evening.
“Now the challenge is to kick on from here,” said Vente. “We’ve got another game coming quickly on Tuesday.
“It has been a while since we’ve played at Easter Road, we’ve had holidays and pre-season in between so it will be good to be back home and hopefully we can get another win.”
