George Edmundson has moved from Rangers to Ipswich Town after the clubs agreed terms on a permanent transfer for the defender.

Centre-back Edmundson travelled south for a medical at Portman Road and has now signed a four-year deal with the League One side.

The 23-year-old signed for Rangers from Oldham Athletic in 2019 but was unable to earn a regular first team place in Steven Gerrard’s team. He spend the second half of last season on loan with Derby County and has now returned to England on a permanent deal.

“The opportunity came along and it was one I couldn’t turn down,” Edmundson said. “I spoke to the gaffer and it really excited me. He was a massive pull and this is also a huge club.”

Edmundson made 17 appearances for Rangers over two years and scored twice. He also made the news when he was banned for six games after breaking Scottish FA coronavirus protocols, along with teammate Jordan Jones.

A Rangers statement read: “Everyone at Rangers wishes George all the best for the future and thanks him for his contribution during his time at the club.”
