Falkirk boss John McGlynn revealed he had lost another key player to long-term injury after the club finally made their first signing in six weeks.

The newly-promoted Bairns added four new faces earlier in the summer and after a long and frustrating wait to bolster further, they announced on Friday afternoon that 20-year-old Swansea winger Kyrell Wilson had joined on a season-long loan.

That news was offset somewhat, however, when McGlynn subsequently disclosed at his media briefing that influential midfielder Aidan Nesbitt had been ruled out for around three months, just a couple of weeks after winger Ethan Ross learned he would be sidelined for a similar period of time.

“Aidan’s torn his plantar fascia in his foot in training,” he said. “It’s just something that’s cropped up, I think. It’s a bit like wear and tear.

“Ethan and Aidan are key players for us. They’ve been part of our success over the last three years.

“Aidan covers so much ground. He’s a buzz bomb, he’s all over the place and it’s hard to replace that. So that’s one of the other bigger reasons why we have to bring more players in because we’re sitting with seven injured right now, with these guys added to Jamie Sneddon, Tom Lang, Finn Yeats, Coll Donaldson and Barney Stewart, so it’s a drain on our squad.”

New signing Wilson, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Yeovil, will go straight into the squad for Sunday’s trip to Aberdeen and McGlynn is confident he will be able to recruit at least two more players – including another winger – before the window closes on Monday night.

“There’s been a little bit of struggle getting to where we’re at, but I think there’ll be another couple on top of that,” said the manager.
