Dundee United have handed a first start to former Rangers winger Glenn Middleton as they take on AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of their Conference League qualifier.
Jamie McGrath, who signed on loan from Wigan two days ago, has been named on the bench by Jack Ross who has named an attacking line-up for the game at a sold-out Tannadice.
Both Tony Watt and ex-Scotland forward Steven Fletcher start up top and Dylan Levitt, who was signed permanently in the summer after a successful loan spell from Manchester United, will bring a goal threat from midfield.
Levitt, who scored six during his loan spell last season, scored as United drew 1-1 with Kilmarnock at the weekend.
Harkes, who was sent off on Saturday, starts again in midfield alongside Craig Sibbald.
Kieran Freeman comes in to play left back with veteran former Scotland international Charlie Mulgrew at the back alongside captain Ryan Andrews and Liam Smith at right back.
Thursday night’s game will be Dundee United’s first in Europe since ten years ago when they played Dynamo Moscow in a Europa League qualifier.
After drawing 2-2 in Dundee in 2012 they fell apart in the second leg and lost 5-0 in Moscow.
Birighitti retains his place in goals.
