Aberdeen have confirmed the appointment of England attacking coach Allan Russell to their new management team.

The 40-year-old Glaswegian will join up with Stephen Glass and Scott Brown at Pittodrie.

He joins as assistant first team coach and will also continue in his role with the England national team.

After a career mostly spent in Scotland, including spells at St Mirren, Hamilton and Kilmarnock, Russell took up coaching when he stopped playing.

He was appointed to the England coaching staff in 2017 and worked with strikers including Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford at the last World Cup.

Dons manager Glass has welcomed the news.

He said: “This is a significant appointment for the Club and Allan’s expertise will be hugely beneficial for both myself, the staff and the players.”

Russell is hoping he can help take the club to the next level.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining Aberdeen Football Club at such an exciting time.

“I look forward to working with Stephen, Scott and the rest of the coaching staff and players to move the Club to the next level.”
