Aberdeen have posted a loss of £2.1m for last season, but an increase in commercial revenue helped compensate for a lack of European football.

The Dons saw their loss of UEFA income and gate money offset by an impressive performance in the transfer market with the departures of Duk, Bojan Miovski and Connor Barron leading to a profit of £5.3m on player trading.

Turnover was down almost £2m to £21.7m but an increase in commercial income and gate receipts, plus the Scottish Cup success, reduced the impact of failure to qualify for Europe, which was worth £5.5m in 2023-24.

The club posted an operating loss of £1.5m compared to £500,000 the previous 12 months, with interest and depreciation charges moving that figure beyond the £2m mark.

However, they reported that earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) remained positive at £453,000.

The club’s total wage bill rose by more than £2m to £15.1m as a result of investment in the squad and Scottish Cup bonuses. The wages to turnover ratio increased from 54% to 70%.

Chairman Dave Cormack said: “I’m pleased to report another strong set of results which show further record-breaking growth in commercial, retail, ticket and membership revenues and positive EBITDA, underlining the progress the club is making against a number of key financial performance indicators, while continuing to invest both on and off the pitch.”
