Aberdeen have signed defender Liam Morrison on loan from QPR for the rest of the season.

The 22-year-old former Celtic and Bayern Munich youngster will help bolster the backline at Pittodrie for the remainder of the current Premiership campaign as they look to fight their way back into the top six.

After coming through the ranks at Parkhead, Morrison moved to Munich and became a regular fixture in the Bavarian giants’ B-team.

Morrison returned to the UK to sign for Wigan Athletic on loan two years ago and his performances for the Latics earned him a permanent transfer to Queen’s Park Rangers in 2024.

He is now back in Scotland and ready to help the Dons turn their campaign around after a disappointing start that led to Scottish Cup winning manager Jimmy Thelin’s dismissal.

Aberdeen confirmed the signing of the Scotland under-21 international on Tuesday.

Morrison said: “I’m very happy to be here. I’ve been speaking to Lutz for a few weeks and, as soon as I knew there was interest, I knew this was where I wanted to come and play football.

“Being from Scotland, I know Aberdeen is a massive club with a great fanbase and high expectations.

“I’m really looking forward to coming back home and playing in the Scottish environment again. I need to play games and try to impress, and this opportunity gives me the best chance to do that.

“Everyone has been great since I arrived and has made me feel very welcome. If we stick together, I’m confident we can end the season strongly. I can’t wait to get going.”

The centre-half is a player Aberdeen FC sporting director, Lutz Pfannenstiel, knows well from their time together in Germany.

“I am familiar with Liam from his time playing in the academy in Munich,” said Pfannenstiel.

“He is a modern defender who is composed on the ball and strong in the air. He has good experience in the English Championship, and his arrival gives us added depth and quality in a key area of the pitch.

“As a young Scottish player, he also aligns well with the direction we want to take the squad.”
