Saturday’s Scottish Cup clash between Aberdeen and Motherwell has been postponed following a pitch inspection.

Aberdeen confirmed that the club contacted the Scottish Professional Football League earlier to arrange an inspection at Pittodrie ahead of the 7.30pm kick-off on Saturday night.

It was confirmed shortly after that the fixture would be postponed.

The club claims that weeks of heavy rain have left the pitch in a poor condition, with particular concern over an area of the surface at the Merkland end of the stadium.

Wednesday night’s premiership clash between Aberdeen and Celtic was also postponed after a late pitch inspection.

The fixture was coming after Hearts’ William Hill Premiership title hopes suffered a blow with a 1-0 defeat at St Mirren on Tuesday night.

Celtic have since approached the Scottish Professional Football League to question whether the correct processes were followed ahead of the postponement of their game at Aberdeen.
