Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to join Celtic until the end of the season as the team look to bolster their title-challenging squad.
The ex-Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder is due to have a medical with the club over the weekend ahead of the move being finalised.
The 32-year-old, who has 35 caps for England, has been a free agent since his release from Turkish giants Besiktas last August after he was frozen out of the squad by ex-Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
The Champions League winner will be hoping to add more silverware to his already medal-laden career with a trip north of the border, as the Hoops continue their fight for the title with Hearts and Rangers.
Regarding the move for the experienced midfielder Martin O’Neill said: “I spoke to him this morning (Friday). I think he wants to come and and I think he’s coming.
“I would have assumed he’s gotten a number of options.
“I think there was even talk about Arsenal, where he is training, might take him on because they might pick up a couple of injuries, so I’m delighted that he’s going to come, so he says.
“So I think he’s doing a medical tomorrow and all being well, I’m hoping that he signs on.
“This boy is here to try and play and try and get into the team and try and get as fit as possible as quickly as possible.
“I think it would be nice to have him here with the squad just for at least these couple of months.”
