Caroline Weir is looking for Scotland to continue shaping their identity under new boss Melissa Andreatta in their friendly against Morocco in Casablanca on Friday night.
It is the first time the Scots have been in action since an encouraging 1-1 draw away to the Netherlands in the summer and it will mark Andreatta’s third game in charge of the national team after being appointed in April, having lost 1-0 at home to Austria on her debut.
The match against Morocco – which precedes another challenge match against Euro 2025 hosts Switzerland in Dunfermline next Tuesday – is part of the preparations for next year’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers and Weir is determined to take as much out of the games as possible, with the emphasis on results.
The Real Madrid midfielder, recently placed 30th after becoming the first Scottish woman to be nominated for the Ballon d’Or, told scottishfa.co.uk: “Firstly, we want to win. As much as they’re friendlies, we want good results this week.
“We need that momentum, that confidence and, alongside that, is obviously good performances.
“We’re working on how we want to play and how our identity is going to be moving forward with Mel and the new staff.
“But overall, we want to win and it’s all preparation for the World Cup qualifiers next year, so that’s where our focus is, and the preparation for that starts here.”
Morocco go into the game after finishing second in the Women’s AFCON earlier this year for the second time in a row.
Led by former Spain manager, Jorge Vilda, the Atlas Lionesses are ranked the third best team in Africa – only surpassed by Nigeria and South Africa.
