Wilfried Nancy is now Celtic’s first choice to be their next permanent manager.
Talks are set to take place with the Frenchman, who is currently head coach of MLS side Columbus Crew.
The Hoops have been looking for a replacement for Brendan Rodgers since he resigned from the role last month.
Martin O’Neill took charge on a caretaker basis and has guided the team to two league wins and a semi-final victory over Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup.
Celtic are hopeful of having a new man in place when the Premiership returns after the current international break.
Head of football operations Paul Tisdale has been playing a major role in the search for a new manager.
Other names are being explored at this stage, but Nancy tops the list of targets for the Parkhead club.
Nancy was appointed at Columbus Crew in 2022 and led the Ohio club to the MLS Cup in his first full season.
The following season, they won the Leagues Cup and Nancy, who has also managed CF Montreal, was named Manager of the Year.
