New Rangers boss Danny Rohl will have to “hit the ground running” to take some of the pressure off after a “disastrous” recruitment process.
That is the view of Four Lads Had a Dream podcaster David Herd, who has doubts the former Sheffield Wednesday manager will unite the support.
Rangers announced the appointment of Rohl as their new head coach on Monday, two weeks after Russell Martin was sacked following a poor start to his tenure.
The club initially held talks with Steven Gerrard, and then Kevin Muscat, but both men ultimately decided against taking the role.
Herd believes questions must be asked over the process.
Speaking to STV Sport, he said: “The recruitment process has been nothing short of disastrous. I don’t know what Rangers are going to say when they announce Danny Rohl, but it’s quite obvious that they wanted Steven Gerrard at the beginning.
“Danny Rohl is nothing like Steven Gerrard as a leader, he’s nothing like him as a coach.
“I don’t think he is someone who is going to unite the fans behind him, in terms of us all agreeing he is the right man, the way that Steven Gerrard would have done.
“I think he will need to hit the ground running to take some of the pressure off him.”
