David Gray insists that recent form goes “out the window” when the capital’s big two meet in the Edinburgh Derby.
Hibs travel across the city this weekend to take on a Hearts side who are sitting top of the Premiership table after five wins and a draw from their first six league games.
The Easter Road side are without a win in their last seven in all competitions, but the head coach believes they can get a result if they play to their capabilities.
Gray has bags of experience in the derby, firstly as a player for Hibs and then in the dugout, including one game last season when the pair occupied the last two places in the league.
So he doesn’t think it makes much of a difference in this particular fixture if they are up at the top or down at the bottom.
Speaking to the media on Friday, he said: “Both clubs are massive clubs in Scottish football with really high expectations and demands when you pull on the jersey.
“The players know that, that doesn’t go away.
“In one of the derbies last season, the teams were bottom and second-bottom in the league. That just changes the narrative, it doesn’t make the game any easier or any harder.
“The derby is the derby, the form table goes out the window, and it’s all about the team that turns up on the day.
“So we need to just concentrate on ourselves and know that if we can put a good performance in, and play at a high level, then we are a very good side.”
