Former Scotland striker Duncan Ferguson has been named the new manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The 51-year-old replaces Billy Dodds, who was sacked just over a week ago with the Highland club bottom of the Scottish Championship.

Ferguson himself left Forest Green Rovers in July after less than six months in his first senior managerial position.

Previously, he worked as a coach under various managers at Everton, including David Moyes and Carlo Ancelloti, and enjoyed caretaker spells in charge of the Goodison Park outfit.

Inverness said Ferguson’s “professionalism and dynamic leadership” made him the “stand-out candidate” in their search for a new manager.

Caley Thistle are bottom of the Championship after taking one point from their first six matches.

The move marks a return to Scottish football for Ferguson after almost two decades away.

The former striker was convicted of assault after headbutting an opposition player whilst playing for Rangers in 1994.
