Eirik Horneland has arrived at Pittodrie as Aberdeen closes in on a new boss, STV Sport understands.
It is understood that a deal has not been finalised, however, discussions are ongoing over the final details.
The Norwegian was previously linked to the role in the Granite City back in 2023, but then-interim boss Barry Robson’s run of wins to take third place that season led to the former Scotland international taking the job permanently.
Now Horneland has emerged as the favourite candidate to take the helm following the sacking of Scottish Cup-winning manager Jimmy Thelin at the beginning of the year.
Last Wednesday, the 50-year-old left his old club St Etienne, who are currently in the race to be promoted into France’s top flight, on his own terms.
Aberdeen players Sivert Heltne Nilsen and Per Kristian Bråtveit have worked under Horneland previously at SK Brann and Haugesund.
While a deal to bring the Norwegian to the north east has not been finalised, it is understood the reds are edging closer to naming a new boss.
