Former Celtic captain Jackie McNamara has thanked medical staff and wellwishers in an emotional video post, his first public message since undergoing emergency surgery.
The Hoops idol collapsed at his home in York in February and was rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
McNamara, who won 33 caps for Scotland, spent three weeks in hospital before returning home to continue his recovery.
In a video message posted by sports management agency Consilium, where McNamara is director of football, the 46-year-old said “he was on the right road”.
“I’ve got one more operation to go. I’m not quite sure when that will be but, you know, feeling good about that and getting back to normal,” he said.
“I’m back to work just now, which is great, and also the messages of support from people out there, I think when I came out the coma, it was such an overwhelming experience,” he added.
McNamara also referenced the coronavirus pandemic sweeping across the globe, poking fun at his new haircut.
“The difficult time just now with lockdown, it’s given me a chance to recover. You can see my son done my haircut, which is not the best at the moment. But hopefully by the time the lockdown passes, I’ll start to look back to myself again,” he said.
