Stephen Robinson has emerged as the preferred candidate to become the next manager of St Mirren.
The Buddies have made their move for the former Motherwell boss who is currently in charge of Morecambe.
The English League One side have given St Mirren permission to speak with Robinson.
In statement they said: “Morecambe FC can confirm that we have been approached by Scottish Premiership side St. Mirren to speak to manager Stephen Robinson in relation to their managerial vacancy.
“The club has reluctantly granted St. Mirren permission to speak to Stephen regarding the position.’’
STV has learned the St Mirren board are meeting on Monday evening to finalise their move for Robinson.
Hearts youth coach Steven Naismith was also on the shortlist of candidates to succeed Jim Goodwin, but he withdrew himself from the running on Monday.
St Mirren face Dundee in the Premiership on Wednesday.
