Motherwell boss Jens Berthel-Askou insists that he won’t allow things he cannot control to halt the progress being made at Fir Park.
The Steelmen were left reeling after having a goal disallowed in their 2-1 defeat to Falkirk last weekend.
An Ibrahim Said strike appeared to give Motherwell a 2-0 lead in the first half, before it was chopped off after a VAR intervention.
The Bairns fought back to win the game and take all three points, with Askou stating after the game that it was one of the worst decisions he had ever seen.
But rather than focusing on that, the manager insists he is looking to build something that won’t be dictated by outside decisions.
Speaking on Thursday, as Motherwell prepare for a game against Livingston, he was asked how the use of VAR in Scotland compares to other countries he has worked in.
He said: “It’s very early for me to conclude anything about that. I know it would be good to get a really controversial comment from me after a game when we feel the decisions have gone against us.
“I have been in Denmark, I’ve been in Czechia, and I have also been in Sweden, where there is no VAR, and now I am here. All countries have their differences in terms of how the football culture is, and that affects the way the game is refereed and the way some decisions are being made, to an extent.
“That is something I am getting used to, but don’t want to spend too much energy on because it is beyond our control.
“We are trying to build something here that will not be stopped by things that we cannot control.”
