Askou: Motherwell ready to 'go all in' towards League Cup glory

The Steelmen take on St Mirren at Hampden on Saturday with a place in December's final on the line.

Motherwell are ready to “go all in” towards League Cup glory as they eye the first piece of silverware this season.

The Steelmen take on St Mirren at Hampden on Saturday with a place in December’s final against Celtic or Rangers on the line.

Jens Berthel Askou’s men will arrive at the national stadium in good form after back-to-back wins in the Premiership.

However, the manager insists that the form book will go out the window as he prepares for a “special occasion.”

Speaking to the media on Thursday, he said: “It’s good to be where we are, we want to stay there, so we have to keep performing and improving, and that’s what we will try to do.

“We know it is a big occasion on Saturday, some people might come to the conclusion that we have an advantage because our lead-in has been better than St Mirren’s, but I really don’t think that will matter on Saturday.

“It’s a big game and a big event, and both clubs have a lot to win, so while obviously it feels good today, by the weekend everything will be reset for a special day.

“It is always a real opportunity when you are in a semi-final, it’s the last stop before the final, so no matter who you play, it is a big opportunity.

“It is a big game against a very tough opponent, St Mirren are really good at what they do, and are hard to play against.

“We are here to win, and to win trophies, and this is the first opportunity this season so we are going to all in, and the first step is reaching the final.”
