Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor has warned his team-mates to avoid complacency or risk another Scottish Cup upset at Clyde.
The champions, who have now gone more than 30 cup games without defeat and lifted every domestic trophy since the start of the 2016/17 season, will take on the Bully Wee for the first time since they suffered a famous giant killing 14 years ago.
The manager Gordon Strachan’s Celtic side handed both Manchester United legend Roy Keane and China international Du Wei their debuts in a shock 2-1 defeat at Broadwood in 2006.
And McGregor, who was a teenager in the youth set-up at Celtic Park when goals from Craig Bryson and Eddie Malone dumped them out of the cup, is wary of history repeating itself.
He said: “Away games are difficult and we’ll approach it with the same attitude and mentality as always. We’ll go there and try to win and progress.
“Obviously I can remember the result from the last time and it was a big shock, but I was probably a bit too young to realise the magnitude of it.
“This time around we will be looking for a positive result that will get us into the next round.
“But in football there are always two teams and both teams will have a chance of winning the game, and if you don’t prepare properly or turn up on the day or play well then you can always get done.
“We are all fully focused on it, we think it’s a good draw but know we have to turn up on the day and earn the right to win.”
McGregor scored as Celtic booked their place in the fifth round with a 2-1 win over Partick Thistle at Firhill on Saturday.
And the 26-year-old Scotland international say the squad take pride in their current run and will be looking to extend it even further when the Clyde game comes around at the beginning of next month.
He said: “Cup competitions are always difficult. You have to turn up and play well.
“It’s a good record we’ve got and we want to continue that. It’s something we are proud of, worked hard for it and don’t want to give it up.
“I think first game after the break there is always that wee bit of rustiness, so it was good to first and foremost win the game and get in to the next round, but also to blow a bit of the cobwebs off.”
Neil Lennon’s men now face five away trips from their next six games to be played over the next three weeks.
The travel to Rugby Park to play Kilmarnock on Wednesday before a home game against Ross County is followed by three consecutive Premiership away ties to St Johnstone, Hamilton and Motherwell.
