Celtic have welcomed their first signing of pre-season as midfielder Liam Shaw joins on a four-year-deal.
The 20-year-old former Sheffield Wednesday player signed a pre-contract agreement with the Parkhead club in March and said it was “impossible” to turn down.
He officially became a Celtic player on Tuesday and says he is already looking forward to the season ahead.
Speaking to Celtic TV he said: “It is overwhelming to come here and see the stadium. I have put pen to paper now so I can get in for pre-season and hopefully hit the ground running, meet all the lads and just get my head down and work hard.
“I just can’t wait to get started.
“When I first heard that Celtic were interested, I couldn’t believe it to be honest, that a club of this stature and with how many trophies they have won and one of the biggest clubs in Europe probably, it’s hard to describe how I was feeling, it was just really massive for me and my family.
“But I have signed now, so it is now up to me to start performing on the pitch.
“It is important to win stuff as a player, and important for the fans, so you have got to have that winning mentality coming to a club like this and that is what attracts you as a player because you know you have a real chance of doing that.”
Shaw, who describes himself as a “box-to-box midfielder that can score goals and likes a tackle” is looking forward to making an impression under new manager Ange Postecoglou.
He said: “There is a new manager here, so everyone is on a fresh start, so you just have to go in and try to impress him, work hard and hopefully get picked in his team.
“I’m just really looking forward to pre-season now to meet all the lads and show the manager what I can do.”
