Police probe 'assault' during Rangers' clash with Slavia Prague

Police Scotland is now investigating an alleged assault which took place in last week’s controversial clash between Rangers and Slavia Prague.

The incident is said to have occurred in the tunnel following the Europa League game on Thursday.

The match was marred by a serious incident in the second half when Rangers player Glen Kamara claimed Slavia player Ondrej Kudela used a racist slur against him when he leaned into his ear.

After the final whistle, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard said that Kamara had insisted he was racially abused.

Slavia instantly denied the allegation and a spokesperson claimed Kudela was “beaten with fists” by Kamara after the final whistle.

The Czech league leaders have since continued to deny racism accusations against Kudela, and claim his alleged victim, Kamara, of punching his opponent after the game.

Kamara said Kudela’s version of on-pitch events was a “complete and utter lie” and added that his teammate Bongani Zungu had heard what was said.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We can confirm we have received a report of an assault following the match between Rangers and Slavia Prague at Ibrox on Thursday, March 18, 2021.

“Officers are liaising with both teams and an investigation is under way.”

Slavia won 2-0 at Ibrox to set up a quarter-final meeting with Arsenal.
