Dundee boss Steven Pressley has described Saturday’s William Hill Premiership match at St Mirren as a “huge game for both clubs”.
The Dark Blues head to Paisley with an eight-point buffer between themselves and the bottom two, but just one ahead of 10th-placed St Mirren and Pressley has warned his players against complacency.
Pressley said: “It’s a huge game. It’s a huge game for both clubs. There’s no doubt about that.
“You know, we talk about a next time, or when you’ve only played your 24th fixture, you always think there’s going to be a next time, and then before you know it, there’s no next time, and you’re at that stage of the season where it’s a must-win game. So we have to guard against that.”
Pressley’s side sat just one point above the bottom two after a 1-0 defeat at Motherwell in December before three straight league wins lifted them clear.
But back-to-back defeats against top-two Hearts and Rangers has left them looking back over their shoulders.
“I’ve said this for some time, that we have to be careful,” added Pressley, whose side’s only league win on the road this season was in the Tayside derby at Tannadice earlier this month.
“We’ve got a little bit of daylight between us and those underneath us, but that can change very, very quickly.
“As a manager, you have to guard against that and any sort of complacency, and we have to ensure that we go into this game at the weekend knowing how important it is against a very, very good St Mirren team.”
Defenders Billy Koumetio and Clark Robertson remain sidelined through injury – Pressley is hoping to sign a central defender before the transfer window closes – while recent signing Brad Halliday is hoping to make his debut.
