Sunderland and Charlton Athletic have approached Rangers to sign midfielder Greg Docherty on loan until the end of the season, STV can reveal.
Docherty, who excelled during a loan spell at Shrewsbury last season, has struggled to break into the first team under Steven Gerrard during this campaign making just six appearances.
Millwall have also expressed an interest in signing the 23-year-old, but we understand it’s a straight fight between Sunderland and Charlton for the midfielder’s signature.
Ibrox boss Gerrard has gone on record saying a number of players could leave the club during this window.
Eros Grezda recently rejoined Osijek in a permanent deal. Others are likely to move on loan, with Docherty likely to be the first.
If he were to move to Sunderland, he would be reunited with former Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty who recently joined the Black Cats.
