SNS GroupFormer Aberdeen and Scotland forward Chris Maguire has been suspended by English League One side Lincoln City after being charged with breaching betting rules.
The 33-year-old, who won two caps for Scotland in 2011, has been accused of gambling on the results of 52 football matches between March 2017 and February 2022.
He has until August 30 to reply to the charge from England’s Football Association.
Maguire, from Glasgow, started his career with Aberdeen in 2006 when he made his debut as a 17-year-old before spending five years at Pittodrie where he scored 24 goals in 158 games.
He joined Derby County in 2011 before going to play for a string of clubs including Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday in his eleven years down south.
His current side Lincoln City confirmed on Monday that he had been suspended over the allegations.
A statement on the club’s website said: “Chris has been suspended by Lincoln City without prejudice until further notice”.
Under FA rules no one involved in football from level eight of the pyramid and above is allowed to place bets on football matches anywhere in the world and can be fined, suspended or banned if found guilty.
Maguire joined the League One side Lincoln from Sunderland in July 2021.
