Former Old Firm stars at Young Boys Janko and Itten have ‘contrasting opinions’ on CelticSNS Group

Young Boys defender Loris Benito got some contrasting feedback when asking two former Glasgow-based team-mates for their opinions on Celtic Park.

Former Celtic full-back Saidy Janko and ex-Rangers striker Cedric Itten are in the Swiss side’s squad for Wednesday’s Champions League encounter at Parkhead.

Janko played for the Hoops in the 2015-16 season after joining from Manchester United, while Itten was a title winner with Rangers in the 2020-21 campaign.

Benito said: “I did speak to them, I got very different answers because one played for Rangers and the other one for Celtic.

“But what they were able to tell me is that the atmosphere is going to be incredible.

“Obviously we prepare the game as we would prepare any other game. We look at the team well, we look at the strengths and weaknesses. So what they were able to tell me was more about the surroundings of the club.

“Other than that, I think it’s been a couple of years that Saidy has been here, so the team has changed quite a lot in those past, I think it was 10 years he said.

“The first question I asked Cedric was how is the atmosphere and he said the only downside was that there were no fans in the stadium. So it’s going to be a first for him as well.”

Young Boys sit bottom of the table without a point and having conceded 22 goals in six matches.

Their hopes of progress are long gone, but head coach Giorgio Contini warned they were determined to build some confidence for the future.

“It’s important we arrive with a good mindset,” he said.

“Our focus is playing brave and taking an important 90 minutes for the future.

“We have prepared well and it’s important we are brave and play with courage. Also we need to fight for every ball for 90 minutes.”
