Neil Lennon praised his players after their 4-0 win over St Mirren – and said their performance was like the team’s form from last season.

Tom Rogic gave the visitors an early lead in Paisley but it wasn’t until the 78th minute that Celtic enjoyed real comfort with a three goal burst that made for a third consecutive win.

Odsonne Edouard’s penalty was followed by goals from Ryan Christie and David Turnbull, leaving the manager happy with his night’s work.

“Brilliant,” he said. “I wasn’t overly enamoured with the first half when we gave the ball away without any real pressure but we had a word with them at half-time.

“The second half was just brilliant. I enjoyed watching it and we were magnificent.

“We looked like we were last year, rampant, full of running, full of goals, full of quality.

“It is a difficult place to come against a well-organised side and we have done a number. We have taken them apart.”

Celtic did suffer one blow, when Steven Welsh was forced off with what looked like an ankle injury sustained under a challenge from St Mirren’s Jon Obika. Lennon revealed that the player now had a protective boot on to protect his foot but that they would have to wait to ascertain the damage.

Saints also suffered an injury with Jamie McGrath substitued in the 13th minute after injuring his shoulder.

“It’s not looking good for Jamie,” St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin said.

“He’s dislocated his shoulder, sometimes they can be a couple of weeks depending on how serious it is.

“If he needs surgery then his season’s probably over, so we’re going through a bit of a difficult patch in terms of that.

“We’re missing Kristian Dennis for a number of weeks with a serious Achilles problem, and Eamonn Brophy looks as if he’s got a problem with his foot which could be a lengthy one as well.

“Unfortunately things are going against us in that respect at the moment, but that’s why we have a good squad and it gives an opportunity to someone else.”
