Scots golfer Gemma Dryburgh is getting ready for one of the biggest weeks of the year as she tackles the challenge of the US Open at Pebble Beach.

Scotland’s top female golfer will start her bid to win the famous trophy on Thursday and will be up against a strong field that represents the best of the world game.

It’s not just the competition that raises the level as Dryburgh goes looking for her first major title – she admits she cannot wait get on the first tee at the iconic Pebble Beach course.

“Pebble Beach must be the most-played course on a simulator,” Dryburgh told STV. “Because I’ve played it many times. Any time you’re on a simulator it’s ‘Oh, let’s play Pebble’, it just has so many iconic holes.

“Even playing on a simulator it’s special so I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like when I’m there in person.

“I’ve got goosebumps thinking about it.”

Dryburgh secured her first ever win on the LPGA in Japan last year and the 30-year-old says shes not taking a moment for granted as she battles the world’s best.

“I do have to pinch myself,” she said. “You can’t take these moments for granted.

“Looking back, when I was a girl playing golf, to think about where I am in my career now and playing venues like Pebble Beach, it is a ‘pinch me’ moment.”

Dryburgh will tee off in the first round tomorrow – with the 78th US Women’s OPen taking place from THursday to Sunday.
