Gerrard: Confidence high as Rangers prepare for Lech Poznan

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard believes his side’s recent form will stand them in good stead for their next Europa League challenge.

The Ibrox side welcome Lech Poznan on Thursday night and will look to take a second successive win in the group after beating Standard Liege in Belgium last week.

That result was part of a strong start to the season for Gerrard and his players, who are unbeaten in all this season’s competitions and are currently top of the Premiership. The team have won their last seven games, most recently defeating Livingston.

“We want the run to last as long as possible,” he said. “I don’t think it’s realistic to expect us to go and win every game but we’re playing well and we’re at a good level.

“Confidence is high, belief is high. It’s about moving on from a positive win at the weekend and facing this challenge in isolation.

“It’s a tough game but one we’re looking forward to and it’s coming at a good time because of the place we’re in.”

A win on Thursday would give Rangers maximum points before a double-header against the group’s top seeds Benfica.

“I think here at Rangers we go into every game to win and we’ll certainly do that in the six group games,” Gerrard said.

“When the draw was made I think it was an exciting group and all the teams we come up against are going to have different strengths and a different challenge for us.

“The plan was always to start well, to go to Liege and take maximum points and I think we delivered with that performance. And you’re always going to look to try and take maximum points from your home games.

“It’s still going to be a right good challenge against Lech Poznan. They’re an aggressive team coming forward with quality players.

“We have to make sure that the game plan is executed well tomorrow if we’re going to have any idea about getting to six points.”
