Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has confirmed five of his players breached coronavirus regulations.

Nathan Patterson, Bongani Zungu, Dapo Mebude, Brian Kinnear and Calvin Bassey were said to have been caught at a house party that had to be broken up by police.

The five players have been removed from squad while they self-isolate.

The club, he said, will deal with the players internally, fining them, and Rangers is in dialogue with the SFA and Scottish Government.

Gerrard said: “I think first and foremost, we have to acknowledge that five of our players have been involved in a breach of the Covid regulations, which, from the top of the club to the bottom, we are all really disappointed in.”

The manager said the team will move forward from the incident and he will sit down with each of those involved when the come out of isolation.

Speaking on Rangers TV, Gerrard said: “I feel personally let-down by recent events but, I am trying to move forward and focus on the important things which is to prepare the team for a huge game against Antwerp.”

Mebude is currently on-loan to Queen of the South and Kinnear is an Academy player who has spent time with the first-team.

Police Scotland said they attended a property in Hayburn Lane, Glasgow, around 1.10am on Sunday, February 14, where ten people were issued with fixed penalty notices for breaching coronavirus regulations.
