Chelsea youngster Gilmour only made his Scotland debut in the Euros warm-up game against Netherlands when he came on for the last ten minutes.

The 20-year-old, who was on the bench when Chelsea won the Champions League final in May, starts in a three man midfield with McGregor and John McGinn.

Manchester United player Scott McTominay moves into a back three alongside Grant Hanley and Tierney.

Liverpool left back Andy Robertson captains the side that includes seven players from the English Premier League and two from the English Championship.

McGregor and Motherwell’s Stephen O’Donnell make up the Scottish Premiership representation.

Steve Clarke’s men know they will be looking to take something from the game to keep their last 16 hopes alive following their opening game defeat.

They will play Croatia in their final game.

Before the game Clarke said: “I hope we come here and put on a good performance and get something from the game as we want to stay in the competition as long as possible.”

On Billy Gilmour he said: “He likes to get on the ball and help the team play, he has it done before for Chelsea and I think he can do it for Scotland as well.

“I think coming here and playing two strikers is brave, obviously we have the three central defenders at the other end as well so it’s a bit of a mix and match.

“We want to try and cause England as many problems as possible, we know we have to respect them and they will cause us a few problems themselves.”
