Giovanni van Bronckhorst to meet Rangers board to discuss recent performances

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst expects talks with the club’s board during the World Cup break – but insists he has no fear about his future at the club.

The Dutchman has been under pressure following recent results and performances and that increased after a 1-1 draw with St Mirren in Paisley in the final Premiership game behind the break.

Rangers already trail Celtic in the title race and endured a Champions League campaign that saw the team set the record for the worst group stage performance. Van Bronckhorst says he now thinks he will speak to the board about those results and the start to the season.

When asked by Sky Sports if he would discuss his future with the club’s directors, the Rangers boss initially said “I don’t know” but then said that a review of the team’s performances was inevitable.

“Of course we’re going to sit down that’s for sure and speak about the last couple of months and which way to go forward,” he told the broadcaster in his post-match interview.

The Dutchman said he was ultimately responsible for performances and results, but isn’t scared that he might face a decision on his future.

“I have no fear,” he insisted. “I never have fear.

“I just see what comes but I don’t have fear. It’s a five week break before the next game.

“That’s time to reflect, rest and recover and we have two weeks to recover for the first game against Hibs.

“If we keep dropping points, I’m accountable for that. That comes with the job.

“Of course I give the players instructions. That’s my job so we prepare the players as best as we can. They have to put in the performance and that’s always the case.”

Jonah Ayunga gave St Mirren the lead at the SMiSA stadium but Rangers captain James Tavernier netted from the penalty spot after Kevin Clancy reversed his initial decision on Ryan Kent going to ground in the box after being advised by VAR officials to review the incident.
