But City secured the title with a 1-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox as Celtic beat Hearts 2-0 in Parkhead

It is their 15th women’s title from the last 16 and guarantees a place in next season’s Champions League alongside Celtic who finished second.

Attendance records were smashed in both Parkhead and Ibrox as over 25,000 fans attended both games combined on Sunday.

Over 15,000 fans were inside Celtic Park in hope of seeing their team clinch the title as a new attendance record for any women’s game in Scotland was set.

Ibrox: Over 10,000 fans attended for a record Rangers crowd in a women's game.

But it wasn’t to be as an injury time strike from Lauren Davidson at Ibrox seen the title return to Petershill.

Glasgow City were at the top of the league going into the final game with Celtic and Rangers both two points behind.

SPFA player of the year Caitlin Hayes, who also won both fans’ and supporters’ player of the year at Celtic, scored the opening goal to put Fran Alonso’s side in the driving seat at half-time.

Natasha Flint made it 2-0 at Celtic Park as the score at Ibrox remained 0-0 with 20 minutes of the season remaining.

At Ibrox Glasgow City piled on the pressure to the Rangers backline but goalkeeper Jenna Fife kept the Ibrox side in contention going into the last ten minutes.

But Lauren Davidson scored an injury time winner to secure the title from Glasgow City who regain the title after losing out to Rangers last season.

It was Davidson’s 31st goal of the season and by far the most important as they fended off the challenge from both Old Firm sides to become champions of Scotland again.
