The Glasgow Warriors were given a hero’s welcome on Wednesday when they arrived at a reception to celebrate their win at the United Rugby Championship (URC).
The team were greeted with fanfare when they arrived at the Glasgow City Chambers event.
Warriors landed the first piece of silverware for a Scottish club since 2015 when they held on for a spirited 21-16 victory over the Bulls inside a packed Loftus Versfeld in June.
Glasgow City Council rolled out the red carpet for the winning team on Wednesday.
Glasgow Warriors captain, Kyle Steyn, said the celebrations were a “great honour” for the team.
He said: “We were delighted to accept Lord Provost McLaren’s invitation to the City Chambers, continuing our victory celebrations, particularly as our season gets under way at Scotstoun Stadium on Saturday.
“We know how much being league champions means to us as players and to the wider club, and for our community.
“To have the city formally recognise the extent of this achievement is a great honour.
“Whenever we take the field it’s in our mindset to do Glasgow, and all the people that make Glasgow the unique place it is, proud.
“We’re looking forward to exploring how, with the city, we can use this win to continue creating a legacy for sports and sports participation in Glasgow.”
Lord provost Jacqueline McLaren said: “Naturally, I’m thrilled at the Warriors win and glad the city’s civic hospitality has been accepted.
“It’s important we honour and celebrate the Warriors incredible achievement.
“I know the Warriors held a celebratory day for fans after lifting the Championship trophy. I’m excited to meet the players and personally congratulate them on their sporting performance. A source of huge pride for Glasgow and Scotland.”
