Glasgow’s OVO Hydro will screen Scotland’s World Cup games, it has been announced.
The 14,000-capacity venue has launched “Our Moment”, a series of live events for fans unable to attend the North America tournament this summer.
The arena will give thousands of supporters the chance to watch Scotland’s matches live in the early hours of the morning after a dramatic 4–2 victory over Denmark ended a 28-year absence from the finals.
Steve Clarke’s side kick off their World Cup campaign against Haiti on June 14 at 2am, UK time, before facing Morocco on June 19 at 11pm.
Scotland then face off against Brazil on June 24 at 11pm.
The Hydro events will feature pre-match entertainment for fans SEC chief executive officer Dominic McKay has said.
“This summer is a moment that lives beyond football. It will be a moment of national significance, and we want to create a place where the Nation can gather to celebrate and cheer on Scotland”, he said.
“The SEC and OVO Hydro are Scotland’s destination for big cultural moments. We have a proven record of ‘creating the incredible’, hosting major sporting events, from the Commonwealth Games to world title matches, and every year bring millions together for music, comedy, and live events.
“We are delighted to be working with the team at Scottish FA on this exciting initiative.”
Looking ahead to the event, the Scottish FA’s Chief Executive, Ian Maxwell, said: “This will be a summer to remember for Scotland supporters – whether they are making the trek to America or cheering on the team closer to home.
“I know those going to the stadiums will make themselves heard and it’ll be the same at the OVO Hydro.
“It’s an iconic venue that has had some memorable moments. We’d like to add a few of our own and raise the roof in the process.”
