Glass reveals support from above during Aberdeen's winless run

Stephen Glass has said that he has felt the support from senior figures within Aberdeen as he tries to reverse the team’s recent run of form.

Glass, who took over at Pittodrie towards the end of last season, made significant changes to the playing squad in the summer and put in place a new coaching staff, initially seeing good results.

However, the team is now on a run of nine games without a win, with seven of those results being defeats.

The manager, who is preparing his side to play a Dundee team on Saturday who have had problems of their own, remains convinced that the underlying performances are good and that results will change sooner rather than later. He said that the view was shared within the club and that he felt everyone was behind him.

“We’ve had a lot of support from within and outwith the club,” he said.

“The significant voices inside the club like Dave Cormack the chairman and people like Stewart Milne, Craig Brown and board members are very supportive because I think they can see what we’re trying to do and the way that we work.

“I know that goes for nothing if you don’t get results at the end of the day but I think when people can see that there’s a process in place and we’re getting the best that we can out of the players, there’s a team that looks like it’s going to produce.

“We’re not scratching for answers.

“I think the support has been there. The support is real, the backing has been there to bring players in and we’re grateful for it.”

Glass said that he was fully aware of the scrutiny that comes with the job, and the pressure to deliver, bubt said that he had been aware of that before deciding to return to Pittodrie, having made his name there during his playing career.

“I am fortunate enough to be the Aberdeen manager and I know the scrutiny that comes with it,” he said.

“I’m going to embrace it for as long as I am here, which hopefully is for a good number of years.”

While a match on Saturday against the side at the bottom of the table provides a chance to start to turn around results, Glass also wants a boost going into a tough run of fixtures beyond that in what he feels could be a crucial spell for the team.

“After Dundee, we play the four teams that are the top four in the league,” he said. “We’ve got Hibs, Rangers, Hearts and Motherwell.

“I think people are already talking about the block of three games and ignoring Motherwell but they’ve had a great start to the season.

“I think this month will dictate a lot because it runs into the December block of games ahead of the break. It’s important we set ourselves up for a run of games in December where again we’ve got a decent number at home. We feel we can be pretty effective here.”
