Greg Taylor has hailed Celtic’s “fighting spirit” following Sunday’s win over Rangers that moved the Hoops six point clear of their city rivals.

The Scotland left-back, who played the first hour of the 2-1 win before being replaced by fellow international full-back Anthony Ralston, was speaking following Celtic’s first win at Ibrox since 2019.

Celtic came back from an early Aaron Ramsey goal to lead through Tom Rogic and Cameron Carter-Vickers in a breathless first 45 minutes.

With a six point gap and superior goal-difference only six league games now stand between Ange Postecoglou’s men and the Premiership title.

This is despite a poor start to life in Glasgow for the Australian that saw them lose three and draw one of their first seven game.

And Taylor, who had a solid performance in the derby win, says the way they bounced back shows that the manager has instilled a “really strong mentality”.

Speaking to Celtic TV he said: “It was a fighting performance. We were a wee bit under the cosh for the last half hour or so, but the boys dug deep and we managed to get a big three points.

“They started well so we just had to try and get a bit of composure within the game.

“We’ve got experienced boys out there and it was a big moment from Tom to get the equaliser and then we managed to control a good bit of the game after that.

“The gaffer’s instilled a really strong mentality within the group.

“We went 1-0 down but we just dug deep and we managed to dig out what we needed and that was a big three points.

“Of course, it was a big one but it means nothing if we don’t go and continue that form into next week, so that’ll be our aim.”

Celtic play relegation battlers St Johnstone at home on Saturday before another clash with Rangers at Hampden in the Scottish Cup semi-final as Postecoglou eyes a treble in his first season.

The league split will then take place with the last Old Firm game of the season to follow at Celtic Park in the coming weeks.
