Hamza Igamane is not training with Rangers’ first team after claiming that a warm-up injury prevented him from coming off the bench during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with St Mirren.
The 22-year-old Moroccan striker indicated that he picked up a quad problem after manager Russell Martin turned to his dugout around the hour mark.
It came as the visitors trailed in Paisley to a second-half Jonah Ayunga goal after 33 minutes.
STV Sport now understands that Hamza Igamane is not training with the Rangers first team ahead of the club’s crucial Champions League clash away to Brugge.
Asked about Igamane, who joined from AS FAR in 2024 and who has made just three substitute appearances this season, Martin said he needed to “trust” his player.
“I wanted to bring him on around 60 minutes, and he said he has a sore quad, so he can’t come on”, Martin said.
“He wouldn’t be on the bench if he’s not fit. So he said he’d done it warming up.
“We turned down a bid this week, but we’ll assess his injury, and I have to trust Hamza, so we’ll see what happens.
“As a human being, I have to trust that he has done it in the warm-up like he said, and we’ll see.”
The incident comes amid interest in the Rangers forward from French side LOSC Lille.
It is understood that the Ligue 1 club have spoken with the 22-year-old’s representatives to register their interest.
In other news, Cyriel Dessers, who was also linked with a move away, was pictured training.
