Hearts back to winning ways with 3-2 win over St Johnstone at Tynecastle

Hearts took all three points from an entertaining afternoon in Edinburgh as they got better of St Johnstone in a 3-2 win at Tynecastle.

A Lawrence Shankland penalty with ten minutes to go after coming off the bench was enough to earn three points against Callum Davidson’s side.

Robbie Nielson made a few changes to his usual starting line up due to a string of injuries and in the knowledge that his squad face two games a week pretty much from now until the winter break starts in November as League Cup and Europa Conference League groups get underway.

Hearts were looking continue their strong start to the league season and get back to winning ways after three defeats in a row to Celtic and both legs against FC Zurich.

But it was the Perth side that took the lead when Graham Carey lobbed an outside of the boot shot over Craig Gordon’s head and into the Hearts goal.

The home side fought their way back into the team and got the equaliser through Kyle Rowles on the 25th minutes.

They were ahead around five minutes later when Liam Boyce put the ball into the net and Hearts went into the break 2-1 ahead.

Nielson’s men looked comfortable going in to half time but again the visitor’s came out swinging and former Aberdeen stalwart Andrew Considine made it 2-2 on the 54th minute.

Shankland then scored his fourth goal of the season from the penalty spot to make it 3-2 with ten minutes to go.
