Hearts have submitted an improved bid for Burton Albion striker Liam Boyce, but face competition for the Northern Ireland international’s signature.
The Tynecastle club had an initial offer rejected earlier this week but have returned with another bid for the former Ross County ace.
But there is interest in the player from a number of clubs north and south of the border.
It’s understood Burton are looking for around £250,000 to recoup some of their investment on the player, who cost them a reported club record £500,000 to lure from Dingwall in 2017.
Boyce, 28, is entering the final six months of his contract and could leave the English League One side for nothing at the end of the season.
Boyce has netted 14 goals in 34 outings for The Brewers this season. He scored 55 goals in 115 appearances for Ross County between 2014 and 2017.
Meanwhile, Hearts have continued their January clear-out by offloading Jake Mulraney and Craig Wighton.
The club have agreed a fee with Atlanta United for the sale of winger Mulraney and loaned fellow forward Wighton to Arbroath.
