Hibernian complete loan signing of Hull City striker Scott

Hull City striker James Scott has completed his move to Hibs, signing on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old arrived in Edinburgh on Thursday evening and completed a medical on Friday before signing his loan contract.

Hibs head coach Jack Ross has been looking to sign a centre-forward since Christian Doidge suffered an achilles injury that is likely to rule him out for several months, leaving Kevin Nisbet as the only senior player available in that position.

“We had actually been trying to do this deal for a number of weeks and it hadn’t happened,” Ross said.

“Undoubtedly Christian’s injury made me a little more anxious to get it done. We needed another option in attack and thankfully we’ve got it.

“I still think in that final third we could do with one more but for the moment this alleviates some concerns around our depth in that area.”

However, the head coach doesn’t expect Scott to be a carbon copy of the man he could replace in the front line.

“He is a different type of player although still physically imposing,” Ross said.

“He have to quickly figure out how to get the best from James and how he fits with our other players but we will do that over the coming weeks and months.

“But certainly just to begin with we have a really good player at our disposal.”

Scott began his career at Motherwell, coming through the ranks at Fir Park to establish himself in the first team squad.

Hull City made their move for the Scotland Under-21 international in January 2020, with Motherwell receiving their third highest transfer fee in their history for the player. Injury has disrupted Scott’s progress at Hull and he will now look to get regular game time with Hibs.
