Hibs have revealed that serious knee injuries to defenders Ryan Porteous and Jason Naismith have sidelined the pair long-term.
Both players were injured during the side’s 2-2 Scottish Cup draw with Dundee United on Sunday.
After the defenders were assessed by medical experts, the club has now confirmed that Naismith is expected to be in recovery and rehabilitation for the next six months, ruling him out of the remainder of the Premiership season.
Porteous has also undergone surgery and could be out until the summer but is “optimistic” he can make a return to playing before the end of the season. However, the club announced that the 20-year-old has signed a new contract with the club, which runs until 2023.
Sporting director Graeme Mathie said: “We are delighted to reach agreement with Ryan and his representatives to improve the terms of his contract.
“We work on the basis that the contracts for our Development players are standard and structured in a way that rewards them as they progress to make an impact in the first team.
“Ryan has worked his way to a point that he’s considered a key first-team player and we were delighted that he will continue his progression at the club for the foreseeable future.”
