Hibernian winger Malik Zaid has declared he would be ‘honoured’ to represent Libya after attracting interest from his native country.
The 20-year-old, who is on loan at Edinburgh City, moved to Manchester from Libya as a six-year-old along with his family, before relocating to Edinburgh and joining Hibs in September 2021.
Zaid told the PA news agency: “I went back to Libya last year and the year before with my dad. I still have family there as well as here.
“Libya is my country and I am very proud of it and it would be an honour to be chosen.”
Zaid is yet to make his Hibs debut but has scored three goals in 30 appearances in William Hill League One this season in loan spells with both Annan and Edinburgh City.
Former Birmingham, Portsmouth and Senegal player Aliou Cisse was recently appointed Libya head coach after a lengthy spell in charge of his native country.
